DPL Upcoming Events: July 5-11, 2026

July 6: Children's Wonder Garden Club. Weekly gardening event for children and families. 9:30 -10:30 AM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office.


July 7: Teen Crafternoons. Tuesdays = your creative time. Hang out and make cool stuff. No sign-up, no stress. Just show up and create something awesome! This week: Build Kitschoose a mini block kit to build tiny trinkets! While supplies last. 3:30 - 4:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Teen Space. Intended for ages 13 - 19.

July 7: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under - Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in the Program Room.


July 8: Celebrate! Join the Children’s Department each month to learn about and celebrate different cultures with stories and food. Join the fun as we celebrate America's birthday! All of your 4th of July favorites will be served. 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the Program Room.

July 8: Free Summer Movie. Join us for Free Wednesday Movies at the Library, hosted by our Children’s Department every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in June and July! Families can enjoy a kid-friendly movie together, with free snacks and a drink available while supplies last. It’s the perfect way to cool off and relax this summer! 1:00 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.

July 8: Teen Writing Club. We’ve got writing prompts and games to spark your imagination and snacks* to fuel your mind! *While supplies last. Come write, chill, and connect with other teen writers. No pressure, just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. Wednesdays, 3:30 - 4:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Teen Space.


July 9: ESL Family Group - Lotería! Join our family-focused support group for those learning English as a second language. Connect with other families, share experiences, and grow your confidence in a safe, friendly space. July 9: I-Cash Booth. Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ staff will be set up in the lobby to help reunite citizens with missing money property through the I-Cash program. In Vermilion County, an estimated 121,000 people and businesses have unclaimed cash or property held by the treasurer’s office. The value exceeds $21,100,000.00. Individuals can search the state treasurer’s database for their name or the name of their business or non-profit at www.illinoistreasurer.gov/icash. 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the Library Lobby.


July 11: Diamond Painting Craft Club. Treat yourself to some creative time the 1st* Saturday of Every Month! Enjoy different themes and styles to diamond paint and enjoy a calm, relaxing afternoon of crafting. This month: get ready for Shark Week or make some Bookish Earrings! Space is limited. July 11: Grady Hendrix Book Club. Calling All Horror Readers! Join us the 1st* Saturday of every month as we alternate between discussing the works of Grady Hendrix and Stephen King! This month: We’ll be discussing: How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. 11 AM – 12 PM in the Program Room. *Note date change due to holiday.

July 11: Senior Social Hour. Seniors, join us on the first* Saturday of every month, for a chance to have coffee and play games together. 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room. *Note date change due to holiday.

July 11: Story Time. Have a great time listening, interacting to stories and making a fun craft! Saturdays at 11:00 AM in the Children's Department.
